Review: Girl, Stop Apologizing by Rachel Hollis
This book totally fired me up in the best way! What a kick-start to 2020!
Check out the official blurb below and then read on for my thoughts.
“I believe we can change the world. But first, we’ve got to stop living in fear of being judged for who we are.”
Rachel Hollis has seen it too often: women not living into their full potential. They feel a tugging on their hearts for something more, but they’re afraid of embarrassment, of falling short of perfection, of not being enough.
In Girl, Stop Apologizing, #1 New York Times bestselling author and founder of a multi-million-dollar media company, Rachel Hollis sounds a wake-up call. She knows that many women have been taught to define themselves in light of other people—whether as wife, mother, daughter, or employee—instead of learning how to own who they are and what they want. With a challenge to women everywhere to stop talking themselves out of their dreams, Hollis identifies the excuses to let go of, the behaviors to adopt, and the skills to acquire on the path to growth, confidence, and believing in yourself.
In this fun, easy, but thought-provoking read, Rachel challenges you to examine the excuses you use for not pursuing your dreams, and details the behaviors and skill-sets necessary to efficiently work towards your goals. The methods she shares-ones that she herself has used to build her company and herself as a person-are easy to understand and apply in your own life. Like any aspect of pursuing your dreams, they require commitment and the right mentality, but they are 100% doable for even the novice goal chaser-like myself.
While I don’t necessarily agree with Rachel on everything, I did agree with most of what she had to say. Rachel spoke straight to my heart on so many topics, and I was moved to tears multiple times! It was exactly what I needed to hear-or read, in this case. Thanks, Rachel, for shaking me up and telling it to me straight. It’s time to leave behind all the silly excuses, including fearing failure and the criticism of others, and just go all in!
Not only is her content great, Rachel’s writing style is so fun, fast-paced, and laugh-out-loud hilarious! Plus, she just seems like a super cool person in general. I’ve fallen in love with her IG feed and her awesome podcast, and I love her platform of encouraging and uplifting women. We need more of that sort of support in this world, especially on social media!
If you’ve struggled to find the courage to pursue your dreams, or if you’re actively pursuing them and just need a little extra push to keep going, I highly recommend this 5/5 Star book. I plan on reading Rachel’s other book, Girl, Wash Your Face, and will definitely be watching for anything else she writes in the future!
NOTE: This book does contain some language, which is usually mild.
