Book Review: A Time to Weep by Tracy L. Higley

I wasn’t sure if this second book in The Time Travel Journals of Sahara Aldridge series would live up to my expectations or not. I really loved the first book—that ending left my mind reeling and me dying to know what happened next! So I had high hopes that this book would be even better.

Good news: it is!!!! ???

This series is so unique among the time travel genre to me, in multiple ways. Not only does it have a very different approach to getting through time—complete with a strict system for how it works and what you can and can’t do, somewhat akin to the TVA in #Loki, as I’ve mentioned before—there is also so much more to the story than the MCs simply traveling back in time at the start of the book and having an adventure. Don’t get me wrong, I like stories like that too. But I appreciate the fresh and unique approach that Tracy has taken, with having the time travel aspect be only part of the whole story, not the entire story itself.

I’ve always been pretty fascinated by ancient Egypt, but I’m even more curious about it thanks to this book and the series as a whole. I officially would love to see the same ancient ruins that Sahara visited and helped excavate. I also found myself watching a documentary on the discovery of King Tut’s tomb and was totally freaking out over seeing all of the pictures and film clips of the real-life characters from the books. It’s always so fun when fiction and history collide in a way that makes the history really come alive!

If I thought Sahara’s time traveling adventure was wild last go around, it was nothing compared to this time. I don’t want to spoil anything, so I’ll be careful what I say… The best way I can put it is that Sahara and Jack’s trip to Ancient Rome to find her parents is non-stop, edge-of-your-seat action from the start. And just when you think things can’t possibly get worse… Well, you’ll just have to read the book and find out. But maybe make sure you have a paper bag handy to panic-breathe into. ??

Tracy really knows how to deliver a strong plot twist at the right moment and leave you wanting more. I have so many questions—even more than I did last time—so book three is definitely high on my TBR. I need answers, man! So many answers! ?

If you want a fun, clean, suspenseful, adventure-filled read that sweeps you away to a fascinating time (or fascinating times), then check out this series! You definitely want to start with book one, but go ahead and get book two as well because you’re going to want to get your hands on it pretty quick! ???

Sometimes the only way forward is back.

Sahara Aldridge, a young Egyptologist in 1922, is chasing down the trail of her parents through the unknown corridors of time.

But when all clues point to Ancient Rome as the next place to search, Sahara retreats into the safety of her archaeological work, cataloguing treasures from the newly-discovered tomb of Pharaoh Tutankhamun.

As the discovery of the intact tomb propels the world into a frenzy of “Tut-mania,” the ever-present Jack Moretti is there to help, but what is his agenda?

And it appears Tempus Vigilia isn’t going to leave her alone. The secret society has sent others, tracking her movements and asking too many questions.

Now it seems her family is in danger.

Sahara must once again put her career on hold, to find what she has lost.

But will Ancient Rome hold the answers, or only one more reason to grieve?
