Book Review: Enamored by Jody Hedlund

There’s nothing like a good medieval/princess/adventure romance, especially when it’s written from a Christian worldview. Jody Hedlund has been churning out some great YA books that fit this bill to a T! When she announced the Knights of Brethren series, I couldn’t have been more excited and I was equally thrilled to receive the first two books for Christmas last year. Now, half way through the year, I finally got to book one! LOL #SoManyBooksSoLittleTime!

Though the book isn’t that long, it still took me a long time to finish it. I really don’t feel like I can blame it on the book itself though. I’ve been super distracted from reading in the last month or so because I’ve been so immersed in the world of editing and publishing as I work toward my own book release. Every time I try to read something, my mind has just been so distracted. Arg! The struggle is real right now!!

Whenever I was able to focus on this book, I thought it was a fun read, with plenty of clean romance plus even more adventure and suspense than I expected. The plot seemed like it would be pretty straight forward at first, and I assumed I knew how things would play out; but Jody managed to throw in some things that made the story more eventful and complex. Ultimately, there’s a bit of a cliffhanger! Elinor and Maxim’s story and the conflict surrounding the Sword of the Magi isn’t quite over yet, so I look forward to finding out what happens next! Hopefully by the time I read that, I will be able to truly focus on it and enjoy the way I want to!!

If you’re looking for a good summer read, especially if you love medieval stories or Arthurian legends, check out this book/series! Books 1-4 are available now, and books 5 & 6 release later this year!

During a time when legends were born . . .

ENAMORED

A princess in need of a husband, a young Sage who cannot have her, and a web of deceit that threatens their love.

Having been raised by her childless aunt and uncle, the king and queen, Princess Elinor finds herself the only heir to the throne of Norvegia. As she comes of age, she must choose a husband to rule beside her, but she struggles to make her selection from among a dozen noblemen during a weeklong courtship.

With aspirations to become the wisest man in the land, Maxim is summoned home by his father Rasmus, a Royal Sage. Reunited with Elinor, once his closest friend, Maxim is quickly enamored with her even though he can never be considered a prospect for her husband.

Elinor’s feelings for Maxim are rekindled too . . . until she learns he has been unwillingly drawn into Rasmus’s scheme to take control of the throne. With the kingdom under attack both from within and without, can Elinor and Maxim overcome the deceit spinning around them? Or will it destroy their love once and for all?

The real story of Excalibur.
