Book Review: The Rose and the Thistle

This book was verra good, indeed! 😉 Laura’s writing is so ✨beautiful✨, painting an evocative, immersive picture of her story world. I always feel like I’ve stepped into the pages of her books and lived among the characters, and I’m always sad to have to leave in the end. This book was no different, sweeping me away to the romantic backdrop of the Borders of Scotland and Wedderburn Castle!

I loved Blythe and related to her a lot since she wears glasses (or spectacles) like me and loves books, writing, and studious pursuits. The real stars of this book, though, are the Spears of Wedderburn—the Humes! 😍 David was despicable, but the rest… *sigh* 😌 The brotherly dynamics, the banter, their kindness toward toward Blythe and Elodie and their eagerness to be good hosts to their female guests—it was just the best! 🥰 Like most everyone else in the story, Orin was my favorite! Such a sweet and smart little lad! I wanted to give him a big hug! And then the laird, Everard 😍😍😍 *sighs again* I always love Laura’s heroes, but he’s definitely a favorite (tied with Henry from A Heart Adrift). And his accent was the icing on top of an already great hero! ☺️ Excuse me while I go make my husband learn a Scottish accent so he can talk to me like that 🤣🤣🤣❤️

The history covered in this book was especially fascinating, as the Jacobite Rebellion is something I knew about but not very well. Laura always goes above and beyond in her historical research and details, which is another thing I love about her books! It feels like the story really could have happened in the middle of these historical events.

If you enjoy historical fiction/historical romance, this is a MUST READ! You won’t regret a moment spent between these pages! 😍 5/5 Stars!
