Author of the Month For the Book Lovers

Author of the Month: Jocelyn Green

I’m starting something new here at Life & Lit! It’s called my Author of the Month–each month I will choose one author to write a dedicated blog post about, spotlighting their work and why I love it. Hopefully, I will also be able to start including author interviews or guest blog posts from them as well! My goal is to show these incredible writers some love and help them grow their readership by connecting you to them and their work.

This month, I chose the incredible Jocelyn Green! Her latest book, Veiled in Smoke, came out in February and I’m SO excited to read it. I’m going to give you more info on that, but first, let me tell you how I discovered Jocelyn.

I’d heard of her Civil War era Heroines Behind the Lines series for a few years, but for some reason never decided I wanted to read them. Then in 2017, Jocelyn released The Mark of the King.

Just look at that gorgeous cover!! (PS: click on the cover of this book, and all the others, to learn more about them).

The unique setting of colonial Louisiana and the founding of New Orleans sounded fascinating to me. I bought it with my birthday money and read it in 2018, and it instantly won the top spot on my favorite reads of the year. Seriously, it was SO. GOOD!

After reading that unforgettable story, I knew I had to read everything else Jocelyn has written or will write. At the beginning of last year, I read her 2018 release A Refuge Assured. If you read my Top 5 Christian Fiction Reads of 2019 post, you’ll recognize this one.

This book was even better than the last one–which is saying a lot! Do yourself a favor and check it out! If you have an Amazon Prime account, you can read it for FREE with Prime Reading.

Last year, I also got the privilege of receiving free downloads of the first two books in Jocelyn’s Heroines Behind the Lines series in audio format from Jocelyn for review! I was thrilled to discover these Civil War stories were just as engaging, moving, and well-written as Jocelyn’s colonial stories. Check out the whole series below! I’m hoping to be able to read or listen to the other two books sometime soon.

One of my last reads of 2019 was Jocelyn’s release from that year, Between Two Shores. While different from her other colonial stories in that it is NOT a romance, it captured my heart just the same and left me in tears by the end. It’s also available for FREE with Prime right now, so snatch that up while you can!

Last but not least, we have Jocelyn’s latest book, Veiled in Smoke, which came out on February 4th, 2020! Isn’t the cover lovely?

By now, I trust Jocelyn’s writing to never disappoint, no matter what era she’s writing about. I’m hoping I can get my hands on this soon and dive into this story centered around the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. And you know what makes this book even better? The fact that it’s the first in a new series! I can’t wait to see what other interesting Chicago history Jocelyn brings out in the other books.

Have you ever read any of Jocelyn’s work? If not, I hope you saw a book or two–or more!–that interested you. If you do pick up any of her books, be sure to let me know! And don’t forget to rate it on Amazon, Goodreads, and/or other retail sites, and even better, leave a review as well. That’s the greatest thing you can do to support an author you love!
