Author of the Month,  For the Book Lovers

Author of the Month: Angela Hunt

Merry Christmas! Can you believe we are at the end of the year already (though I can’t say I’m too sad about that fact)?

I’m excited to share with you my last Author of the Month post of 2020! My pick for December is one of the queens of the Christian fiction world, a writer that has been publishing for decades now-Angela Hunt!

Angela has dozens and dozens of titles to her name in basically every genre you can think of, from Biblical fiction to contemporary romance to children’s books. When I say she has done it all, she has done it all! And she does a fabulous job of it!

All that said, there is no way I could include all of her works in this post, as I normally would do for one of these author of the month posts. So this time, I decided to just feature the books of Angela’s that I’ve already read, plus a few more that are on my to-read list. At the end of this post there will be a link to the full list of all of Angela’s published works.

I first discovered Angela Hunt through my youth pastor’s wife when I was about thirteen years old. She recommended I read The Heirs of Cahira O’Connor series by Angela and even loaned me her set of first edition copies. I loved these books so much that they remain on my list of Top 3 Favorite Series Ever to this day. For a full breakdown of the books and why I fell in love with them so much, check out my blog post about them HERE!

After reading these books (and re-reading them!), I knew I wanted to read more of Angela’s work. Somehow though, I never actually got around to it until Angela started her Dangerous Beauty series. For some reason I never read book three, Delilah, and it still sits on my to-buy/to-read list, but I loved the other two books, Esther and Bathsheba. These books brought to life the stories of these Biblical women and made think of them in a new way. I especially enjoyed Bathsheba, as it made me sympathetic towards her for the first time. It also challenged my perception of King David and educated me on many lesser known events of his reign.

After this series ended, Angela launched her Silent Years series. This series so far is my favorite of her Biblical series; every book was like diving into a period of history that I previously knew nothing about and living through it alongside the characters. The “Silent Years” were the 400 years between the end of the Old Testament and the beginning of the New Testament when God did not speak to His people through any prophets. Yahweh had gone silent and seemed not to be at work. But God never stops working, and as Angela illustrates in this series, He was working in this time period to line everything up for His arrival on earth and pave the way for the future church.

Angela’s current series, the Jerusalem Road series, launched this year with book one, Daughter of Cana, and book two, The Shepherd’s Wife. I was beyond thrilled to have the opportunity to join Angela’s street team for the launch of book one and hopefully I will be able to remain on that team for a long time to come! The Cahira O’Connor books were some of the first CF books I ever read, and they are the books that made me fall in love with historical fiction specifically. So to be a part of helping launch and promote that same author, all these years later… it’s so exciting to me!

So far this series has been excellent and I can’t wait to see what Angela does in book three, A Woman of Words, coming in 2021-and hopefully there will be even more to this series after that!

As I mentioned earlier in this post, Angela has written several children’s books, as well as short stories, in addition to her many novels. Since I am part of her influencer team, she sent me digital copies of two of her recent books, a short story and a children’s book, so I could read and review them. These are short, sweet reads that touch the heart-I seriously cried when I read Sit. Stay. Forever. As someone who has lost two dogs in the past few years (plus was there with my husband when he lost his childhood dog) this story really hit me right in the feels!

Now we come to the books I haven’t read yet that are on my TBR list!

The Knights’ Chronicles-After of Margate Castle, The Troubadour’s Quest, and Ingram of the Irish

These medievals-set novels have been on my TBR for years, and I really don’t know why I haven’t gotten around to reading them, especially since I already have book one in my Kindle. However, I am determined to get to them one day!

I love Colonial era fiction, so Angela’s Keepers of the Ring series really piques my interest. This series followers individuals that inherit this family ring that was first brought to America in 1587. Each book is set in different colonial settlement and is centered around true stories of Native Americans and historical events from our nation’s early years. I’m especially intrigued by Roanake, which is about the doomed colony of the same name!

A couple years ago I realized that Angela had written other Biblical Fiction much earlier in her career, and now those older works are on my TBR. I recently found a copy of Magdalene at 2nd & Charles, and I’m looking forwarding to hopefully reading it soon! I’m also very intrigued by her series based on the life of Joseph! Surprisingly, there is very little fiction written about him yet (though I do know one of my other favorite authors, Mesu Andrews, is currently working on a duology about him!).

Have you ever read anything by Angela Hunt? If so, which book or series is your favorite? If you haven’t read anything by this incredible, beloved author-what are you waiting for?

PS: if you’re in need of a last minute gift for a book lover in your life, you still have time to order one of Angela’s books and get it before Christmas with Amazon Prime!
